📈 Figure/graph of the month
Female/male ratio of entrepreneurial activity in India.
In recent years, two government initiatives have significantly contributed to reducing this gap. First, women entrepreneurs often faced challenges accessing credit due to a lack of collateral. The MUDRA scheme addressed this issue by providing collateral-free loans of up to INR 1 million for small businesses, with women accounting for over 69% of the beneficiaries. Second, the Jan Dhan scheme promoted financial inclusion among women by simplifying the process of opening bank accounts and offering an overdraft facility of INR 10,000. As a result, gender parity in bank account ownership has been achieved in India, as highlighted in the 2021 Global Findex database. [World Economic Forum]
